Kogure Kiminobu . . .
is one of the pair of Mr. Nice-Guys in 'Slam Dunk'. The other is Yasuda
Yasuharu. Kogure is agreeable, amiable, encouraging, supportive, helpful,
accommodating and mild-mannered. All of which make him very likeable. I
think he is one of the least hated or disliked characters in 'Slam Dunk'.
But his goody-two-shoes-cum-boy-next-door image plus his spectacles do
give him a nerdy cast.
He is indisputably the nanny of the Shohoku basketball team. His friendliness,
talkative, bright and cheerful nature compliments Akagi Takenori's black-faced
(Editor: No insult to complexion intended.) authoritarianism very well.
He is civic-minded which seems to be rare trait amongst the Shohoku players,
hence his frequent moments of embarrassment in public, especially in trains.
People usually love to hate goody-two-shoes. But Kogure is not your run
of the mill for-the good-of-everyone-else fellow. Although he tends to
be rather timid, he has the courage of his convictions. His sincerity shows
or rather, beams from his person in his concern for his teammates and his
love for basketball. When things go wrong, he frets and gets really messy
hair. He gives suggestions with nasty implications when he runs of out
of good ideas.
As with most of such characters, Kogure Kiminobu is not an outstanding
character and tends to be rather two-dimensional. But he does have the
potential to develop into a mature and sensible adult which is a lot more
than one can say for the rest of the Shohoku players. |
