Akagi
Takenori
Although there is not any
distinct indication in ‘Slam Dunk’, Akagi Takenori gives me the impression
that he is a male chauvinist. Perhaps it is his conceit, self-righteousness
and presumptuousness. Remember how he thought that his loss to Sannoh’s
Kawata Masafumi would cause the defeat of Shohoku and the numerous times
when he refused to listen to others?
He is
a person firm in his believes and principles. He fully believes in the
hierarchy system and is therefore respectful of his elders and had no qualms
about displaying his authority as a captain in public. He strives for excellence
academically and is an obedient student. He also has a great sense of responsibility.
Akagi
does not express his feelings very well nor too often. He is a straightforward
person and dislikes flattery, just as he dislikes insults and unfavourable
comments directed at him. But he dispenses rather mean comments about others
sometimes.
Although
farsighted is too good a term to use on him, he is nevertheless a systematic
planner. He is usually level-headed. Of course, there are exceptions. One
of which is his sister, Akagi Haruko, whom he is rather protective of.
Two is the love of his live – basketball. Remember how he nearly fought
with Sakuragi Hanamichi when the latter insulted the game? Three is his
intolerance of idiocy which when couple with his bad temper brews a rather
violent reaction. He even punched Rukawa Kaede on the head during the match
with Sannoh.
In conclusion,
Akagi Takenori is not really a nice guy. And he is definitely immature. |
